NO PAIN NO GAIN BUT IT'S LAZZY TIME TO READ HUMOR

NO PAIN NO GAIN! The bodybuilding community adopted the phrase.

According to Wikipedia, No pain, no gain (or "No gain without pain") is an exercise motto that came into prominence after 1982 when actress Jane Fonda began to produce a series of aerobics workout videos.

Is LAZY FOR SUCCESS relevant to NO PAIN NO GAIN Belief?

Now, I do not want to discuss about it. I just want to share humor quotes by various kinds of people about PAIN and GAIN.

Berbagilah dengan menulis! Bangun Jaringan! Dapatkan Penghasilan Tambahan!

Lakukan apa yang kamu cintai dan cintai apa yang kamu kerjakan.
Sering kali kita sering terpaksa untuk bergabung dengan bisnis tertentu ketika seorang teman memberi twaran kepada kita. He he he saya sendiri pernah mengalaminya.

Find Idea, Discover Treasures

Have you ever watched National Treasure: Books of Secret? The hero, Ben, said that what he needed to discover the treasure is “ Key Words”. You can see in the movie that one clue brings Ben to other clue.

To get the idea is like effort to discover the hidden treassure. One clue brings you to another; one key word may bring you to another key word and then you can get closer to heve idea.

It’s a kind of brain storming. Write down what ever comes to your mind related to something you want to discover. From your mind you can get some key words, you also need another references such as books, articles, the words you get from your experiences. Sometimes, ideas come to your mind when you are in chit-chat, taking a bath, riding motor cycle, so prepare small piece of paper to record them every time you get it.

Then, use that keywords, search any related information by using Google search engine at http://www.google.com or Yahoo at htttp://www.yahoo.com. You will get many readings, related to your intended theme/ topics. It's also point to ponder that organizations or people with certain characteristics/ interest/ belief, usually use certain keywords. For example, those who are interested in politics, usually use the work 'democracy'; those who are interested in religion use word “God¨; those who are interested in business, usually use the words: “passive income, investment.” From the readings related from your topic, you can get ideas, new keywords, and from new key word you can search in search engine the other related readings. The Way of Patience at Work and Ninja Spirit

Patience is heart of flower, let it grow at work to win with others.

Sometimes we hears 'I hate my work', 'My working situation is getting worse", "Everyone blame me and scold me and make me a loser". Another says, "I was patient and have tried to be patient, but I cannot resist anymore with work situation" of "my patience is limited, and I won't be patient anymore."

The word patience and bad working situation remind me about something interesting me when my brother in Indonesia learned shodo (Japanese Caligraphy). It was the character of "Nin". This character is also related to the word "Ninja", "Ninpo" and "Ninjutsu". Ninja were really not assassins sure they had to do that occassionally but a true ninja was and is a person of endurance and perserverence."The first priority of the ninja was and is to win without fighting", according to Essence of Ninjutsu By: Masaakai Hatsumi.

The Japanese "Nin" character represents the ancient martial art of Ninjutsu and it's higher form of Ninpo, the Arts of the Ninja. The "Nin" symbol translates into Endurance, Perserverence, Patience In many people's image, Ninja (person who masters art of preserverence, and patience) is hero. So, are preserverence and patience heroic acts? You can decide by yourself by considering role of patience and preserverence in peace, harmony, and achiving success. We should change our mindset, stating that patience and perserverence are actions of weak person. Instead, patience and perserverence were possed by the persons who knows 'The Secret'.

The Japanese character for Nin consists of two parts or radicals. The upper radical is called yaiba which refers to the cutting edge of a blade. The lower radical can be read either as kokoro or shin, both of which mean heart. One, who consider patience weakness, translates "Nin"as "heart stabbed by blade", meaning to say "he saves anger". Ancient saying says, "Patience, or preserverence (Nin) is not heart stabbed by blade, but it is heart of flower, instead" So, to manifest patience, we should develop heart of flower. We should choose to develop happiness, joy, and gratitude, instead of fighting against hate, stress, anger.

At work, sometimes, we work under pressure. Many things, we should finish. Some people ( customer or colleague or our boss) scold us. The bad situation at work that we feel make us difficult to take breath. Sometimes, it also happen in our relationship and social life. Then, we try to be patient, but we translate patience as "heart stabbed by blade" or we just let bad situation happen and save the anger and sadness in our mind. The situation can be worse, we can get into more stress because we attract worse situation, worse work climate, worse relationship. We try to fight againts jealousy, anger, sadness in our heart, but they grow bigger and bigger because we think about them. It is law of attraction, according to "The Secret" by Rhonda Byrne.

So what should we do, when in bad work situation? Remember 'Nin', 'the heart of flower', being patience means that you choose to feel joy and gratitude. Remember a happy moment, the beloved one who inspiring you, a momment when you are in love, a momment when achieving something. Visualize and imagine that you have achieved best situation (perhaps work performance achievement, happy momment, good relationship) and be grateful! Feel the joy, happiness, and grattitude and smile. Feel and the flower in your heart grow. That is patience. Spread it to all people.

The change within can attract better situation at work, in relationship, and in social life. You will be hero who posses way of patience and preserverence.

FIRST TIME IN PUBLIC SPEAKING

I remember how the first time I became an Emcee (MC = Master of Ceremony). Basically I was shy person, litle bit had low self confidence. However, I had experiences in public speaking, first, when I had presentation as students, but I was trembling during the presentation. When I presented my research in thesis exam, I did it better because preparation and affirmation plus vizualization technique before presentation. All of my friends laughed at my nervousness. Then, when I bacame a teacher, my audiences were my students. I was not nervous because I was their superior :-)

But, as an Emcee (MC = Master of ceremony), it's different.

After resigning as English teacher from school, I worked as translator and Training and Development Staff in an MLM/ Direct Selling company. Distributors were the greatest asset of MLM company and my team's and my job was to mantain good relationship with distributors in order to develop their network through functions, events, and training programs.

In the events, training, and functions, I did my job not as speaker nor MC, I became a technical staff, instead. Sometime, I became equipment and tools crew, building the stage and decoration, and loading event equipments. Sometime, I became a cameraman or photographer. I was not a man on the stage.

I was PIC in weekly events for distributors. It was attended by hundred distributors per meeting. The events were Orientation of Product Presentation and Quality Control Circle. In this two events, there was two staff in charge, my friends, as Music DJ, and me as technical staff, who prepared equipment, speakers and MC. The speakers and MC were from distributor leaders.

One day, the speakers came to the event but the MC, whom I had invited before, did not show up. Audiences were waiting and the event must go on. So, I had no choice. I should became an MC. I felt nervous, I got to restroom and did 'push up' exercise to make my body erect and I also did breathing exercise. I had ever did my job as cameraman and knew the theory in MC training, but it was the ferst time for action. I did vipashana, I listen to my heart beat, not try to fight my nervousness but to accept it with smile and fell the air flow of my breathing. And the show time, I got on the stage infront of hundred audiences, and I started emceeing.

That's the first time, I became an MC. Then, my department chose me to be an MC in biggest training event. Well, I feel the change within.

RESPONDING, NOT REACTING TO LIFE

by Zig Ziglar

"You were born to win, but to be a winner you must plan to win, prepare to win, and expect to win." ? Zig Ziglar

When you respond to life, that's positive; when you react to life, that's negative. Example: You get sick and go to the doctor. Chances are good that after an examination, she would give you a prescription with instructions to return in several days.

If, when you walk back in the door, the doctor starts shaking her head and says, "It looks like your body is reacting to the medicine; we're going to have to change it," you probably would get a little nervous.

However, if the doctor smiles and says, "You're looking great! Your body is responding to the medication," you would feel relieved. Yes, responding to life is good...

A few years ago, there was much turmoil in the U.S. job market. People were losing their jobs through downsizing, mergers, and takeovers. This created some unusual opportunities for many people. For example, the Wall Street Journal reported that in a five-year period, more than 15 million new businesses were created, well over half of them by women. Very few of the women had any marketable skills, and all of them had great financial need.

Most of the new businesses were "trust" businesses, meaning that the women collected the money before they delivered the goods or services. Many, possibly most, of those new businesses would never have been started had not an unfortunate event occurred in the people's lives. When those events did occur, and needs became obvious, the women chose to respond, and there is little doubt that many of them are better off now than they were before...

The message is clear: If you respond to life instead of react to it, then you've got a much better chance of achieving success

See you at the top!

Ghost Rider and Freewill to Make Decision

By Purnomosidhi

Ghost Rider is fantastic movie about the power of decision. It tells how decision in life can have effect in our life.

In order to save his dying father, young stunt cyclist, Johnny Blaze signed contract and sold his soul to Mephistopheles, a representative of darkness. Fear of loss is the path to darkness. Fear of loss and path of darkness also occurs in Star Wars episode III, when Anakin Skywalker was afraid to lose his wife and submitted his soul to Dark Side and then became Dart Vader. Johnny’s fear of loss became his ignorance because he sold his soul and gave the darkness an authority to make decision for his life.

Years later, Johnny’s path crossed again with Roxanne, his ex-girlfriend, and also with Mephistopheles, who offered to release Johnny’s soul if Johnny became the fabled, fiery Ghost Rider, a supernatural agent of vengeance and justice. Mephistopheles charged Johnny with defeating the despicable Blackheart, Mephistopheles’ nemesis and son, who planned to displace his father and created a new hell even more terrible than the old one.

Fortunately, there was still awareness inside. Johnny was aware of freewill and made decision to get second chance to change his life and make effort for redemption for his past ignorance. His effort created the second chance and he had courage to make decision and choice for his life and do not sell his freedom to other to make decision for his life.

If you do not make choice, the choice will make you. If you do not make decision, the other will make decision for you.

JUST DO IT NOW!

Often, in our life, we tend to delay our decision to grow, we delay our steps for better life, delay our step to increase our work performance, delay our decision to improve our education because we are afraid of failure. But, we delay we do not go anywhere. Delay to make courage step just make our fear grow worse.
Paulo Coelho in one of his short stories “Maktub” describes how the delay can have bad effect to our courage.

When the wanderer was ten years old, his mother insisted that he took course in physical education. One of the activities required him to jump from a bridge into a river. Early in the course, he was paralyzed by fear. Each day, he stood last in line, and suffered every time one of those in front made his jump -- because it would shortly be his turn. One day, the instructor -- noticing his fear -- made him take the first jump. Although he was still frightened, it was over so quickly that the fright was replaced by courage. The master says: "Often, we can afford to take our time. But there are occasions when we must roll up our sleeves and resolve a situation. In such cases, there is nothing worse than delay."

PLAY YOUR MUSIC! LOVE WHAT YOU DO

Sometimes, we get bored in our work or study. We are irritated with the bad situation we feel. We do not our job and responsibility, and the situation may get worse.
To love what you do, enthusiastic to your mission, play your role at work just like playing your favorite music can make you better at work.
The short story written by Paulo Coelho tells that enthusiasm and joy can create better performance.
A friend of the wanderer went to a play on Broadway, and went out for a drink during the intermission. The lobby was crowded, and people were smoking, talking and drinking. A pianist was playing, but no one paid any attention to his music. The wanderer's friend sipped her drink and studied the musician. He seemed bored -- just doing his job and waiting for the intermission to end. After another drink, and feeling a bit high, she approached the piano. "You're a pain in the neck! Why don't you play just for yourself?" she exclaimed. The pianist was surprised. And then he began to play the kind of music he liked. In just a few minutes, the entire lobby fell silent. When the song was over, there was enthusiastic applause.

BUGS IN THE BOX

Once day, a professor made an experiment on bugs’ behavior. He put the bugs in the 20 centimeter- high box and closed the top of the box. Bugs were in the box day by day. As the bugs jumped, their head crashed the box roof. The felt sick and then, they jumped not higher than 20 centimeter so their head would not crash the roof. They did it day bay day and it became their habit. One day, the professor open the roof but what did the professor see? The bugs still jumped not higher than 20 centimeter even if there was no roof.

Many times we also did what the bugs did. We tended not to jump higher because we think that our head would hit the roof and feel sick. Sometimes, when we are trying hard to achieve our goal, our friends and beloved ones say to us not to go on because they love us – they are afraid if we got sick when we hit the roof. We thought that we could not jump higher. Perhaps, many people around us tell to us that we cannot achieve the goal we have set Unfortunately, we just believe that we cannot. Many times, we confirm the negative affirmation about us without realizing that we should make positive affirmation and do the change to jump higher.

However, there is no roof. Our minds set the roof, and set the limit. Make decision to jump higher, don’t be trapped like bugs in the box – you can jump higher and become the record breaker. Make decision and just do it.

FOR THE BETTER CHANGE: BE AN EMPTY CUP!

Perhaps, you have ever heard about the story of professor and Zen Master. OK, in this article, I invite you to recall the story and I will tell you the story with modern tone.

A professor was curious to Zen Master's knowledge. He had heard about the Master from people concerning the teachings of the Master. The professor had learned many thing during his life. He was experienced and skillful in his profession. One day, his friend suggested him to learn something from the Master for the change of his life.

The Professor visited the Master's house. That evening, in the Master's living room, accompanied with the song “Open Up”, two cups of coffe and a teapot on the table, the Professor and Master sat face to face. May be, some of you still remember the commercial break soundtrack of Nescafe,“Open Up” by Shunza. You may remember the lyrics.

The Professor told the Master the intention of his visit. The Professor also said that his friend suggested him to visit the Master for better change. Then, the Master put the teapot and poured the water into Professor's cup, which still contained full of cofee drink.

“Master, my cup is still full. The cofee will spill out if you keep pouring water intu it.”
“So, you should empty your cup then I can pour the water into it.”
The Master smiled.
“Mr. Professor, your mind is full of judgement. You cannot learn anything from me if you cannot empty your judgement. If you want to learn, open up your mind and don't judge. Then, you will be receptive to the lesson”

Open your heart, open your mind, and open your eyes. They are keys for self-development. By opening our mind, we will have more ability to understand what we learn. Openess is receptive attitude for the change and lesson. In contrary, bad supposition will make a ban to the change. Consequently, you will not listen and understand and moreover the supposition will blind us.

It is undeniable that learning is long life process. At work, we need to open up to the change. Commitment is essential at work. But unfortunately, some of employees close their heart not to commit. They close their heart not to learn and try the new things (such as the new tasks). That attitude will make them left behind. So, what attitude should we have when getting new tasks at work? The answer is “Open Up”. Be an empty cup and learn!

Why did Nescafe choose song “Open Up” as the soundtrack of its commercial break? Because the cofee is the friend for you in chit-chat, a moment when we open ourself to our friends. Openness is also useful in teamwork. We open our heart and mind to listen the suggestion by our boss, subordinate, as well as management discretion for the better change. With this attitude, we will be more dynamic. A leader is supposed to open his heart and mind to motivate his subordinates to express their idea.

During training or learning new thing, never think that you are smartest. Openess is the appropriate attitude. In learning, we should have a willing to open our heart to receive the lesson from the others. Consequently, our mind become more receptive to the training.

By becoming an empty cup, we will be open-minded. Open Up! Because the idea can come from any where, from small things, and from anyone. It may came from the people whom you have not known or those whom you think unimportant. .[]

Do’s and Don’ts in Dealing with Indonesian Employees

Cross-Cultural Understanding is essential in dealing with people to be accepted in their community especially with those who have different culture. By understanding the culture, we can maintain harmonious relationship with the society where we live.

Taboo for one culture may be considered not taboo in other culture. Something acceptable in your culture may be considered taboo for Indonesians. To understand what is taboo or not taboo for Indonesians, you shall read “Do’s and Don’ts” below.

Do
Introduce yourself with handshaking and smile
Indonesians are a polite people and very tolerant towards foreigners and their manners. Handshaking (salaman) is customary for men and women alike on introduction and greeting, accompanied with the usual smile. Indonesians like to establish relationships. The greeting process is very important. Well begun is half done. Always shake hands with your business partner. Be humble in your negotiations and give your business partner the highest respect.

Greet and smile at everybody notwithstanding their level position.
Smile indicates friendliness. Arrogant people will not reply their smile/ greeting with smile. They will think people, who do not reply their smile, are not easy to talk with. Smiling at them can make them comfortable.

Win the informal leader’s heart
In the company, there are formal leader such as managers and supervisors. However, among the staff or operators, there is person that is respected and always listened by the others although this person does not have high job level position. This kind of person has strength in social/ interpersonal relation. To approach and make good relationship with this person can help you to win his/ her group. Politely, build his/her character and he/ she will act as a channel to your employees and give you information about employee’s conditions and their response.

Ask a simple question and call their name
Asking simple question can make them feel that you care about them. Indonesians prefer personal closing. If you ask simple question and call their name, you have done the ice breaking. They will feel secure and think that you are friendly.

Be a good model of discipline and give them real example
Indonesians tend to duplicate the behaviour of the people they respect. If you are their superior, they will imitate your behaviour because you are their model. This feature can be used to build their attitude toward discipline. If you are their superior and they see you put the rubbish to the dustbin or clean the dirty cup, they will follow your action. They will follow you because you are their model. When they see you participating in maintaining cleanliness, they will understand your action and they will act together to realize the cleanliness.

Build family atmosphere
Indonesians view family as intimate integral relationship, in which its members support each other and feel comfortable and secure. When Indonesians feel as a part of family, they will feel secure and motivated to increase their performance. In good family, there is harmonious interdependent relationship. There is sense of belonging and sense of ownership in its members’ attitude. For example, to print name card for your employees, even if for those who in low level, can make them feel as your big family members. They will be proud because their names are mentioned in their company’s name cards. Indirectly, it is also a promotion of your company because proudly they will show their name cards to their friends. Create the events to build their solidarity as one family, such as outbound and company travelling. Make personal contact rather than writing letters or memos. Don’t consider time spent to develop personal relationships wasted.

Provide a channel for their ideas/ grievances.
Their idea/ grievance is an expression of their morale in the company. If no grievance, it does not mean that it is good conditions. Some Indonesians purpose to keep silent when they lose their enthusiasm and trust in their leader/ superior. It is better to welcome their idea/ grievance but it does not mean to be totally permissive. It also does not mean that you bear all their problems. In this situation, art of listening to show that you care about them is essential. If they feel that you care, they will feel humanized and comfortable. On the contrary, if their ideas/ grievances are underestimated, they will be passive and tend to hide their problem. Grievance that is ignored can cause disharmony because they feel that they are not humanized. By providing channel for their aspirations, conducive culture is developed. In other word, any one will feel comfortable to express their idea and give information to you.

In condition that you need your employees to work on holiday, give them opportunity to worship -- let the Christians worship on Sunday and Easter, let the Buddhists worship on Veshak Day, Hinduists worships on Nyepi Day. During Islamic fasting month, don’t eat something in front of them. Usually, during this month, they go home early. It is good to conduct fast breaking dinner at your office to maintain the solidarity. Give a greeting when they celebrate their religion.

Offer edible food and non-alcoholic drink
For Indonesians, rice (nasi) is staple food. They are not satisfied if they eat without rice. In their mindset, they will be weak without rice. When providing meal for them, the rice must be included. Majority of Indonesians are Moslems. Not all foods and drinks are allowed for them to consume. Don’t offer pork or alcoholic drink, pork and alcohols are forbidden (Haram). Any animal with fang is forbidden. Amphibian is also forbidden. If you want to buy food or drink for them, choose the food or drink, which are Halal certified. Don’t offer beef to your Balinese friend because most of them are Hinduists.

Why Fresh Graduates Avoid Sales and Marketing Position

It's phenomena in Indonesia. When I was a fresh graduate, I saw that most of my friends avoided the positions related to sales and marketing. Many of them thought that rejection from prospects was embarrassing. It made them shy to offer or sell something. That's why they rejected the offered positions related to sales and marketing.

However, every body has ever felt shy, almost every body has ever experienced rejection when offering something. So..rejection is not embarrassing, rejection is normal because every one has freewill to decide whether to accept our recommendation.

Most of fresh graduates avoid the career related to sales and marketing. However, whatever your job, you sell something. Sales and marketing are related to offering and recommending something. And, every one has experience to propose, offer, and recommend something. When you write your application letter or CV/resume or when you are a candidate in job interview, you propose and recommend your skill and the benefit if the company recruits you in order to get money. It means you try to sell your skill and time to get money. Many times, some companies reject what you propose in application letter as well as in interview – but it doesn't mean that you die, you keep going for other opportunity. If you are university graduate, you have experienced in thesis exam. When you make proposal for study or take thesis exam, you propose the benefit from your study and recommend reference of theory which supporting your hypothesis. It means you also sell something – you offer your idea for your future. Sometimes, your lecturers reject your idea – but it's not big thing. You keep going for your future. Many times we give suggestion to our friend and family and sometimes your suggestion is not accepted by them; it means you try to sell something – you sell your idea.

Why rejection is a big thing? Many of you have experience of rejection when you propose your love to beloved one. Perhaps, you experience broken heart, rejection when you try to propose idea in your company, in your study, or in your community and some of your friends mocked at you that your experience of rejection is embarrassing. And, it make you frustrated but the fact is that you can make another better opportunity. The fact is that “rejection itself is not a big thing”. Our environment has created to our mind set and programmed in our mind that rejection is scary and embarrassing. However, most of success people experienced of rejection, too. But they had perseverance to recommend and sell their idea. Jack Canfield experienced rejection when proposing 'Chicken Soup for The Soul”. Friends of Thomas Alfa Edison laughed at him when he proposed the electric lamp. Scientist mocked Albert Einstein when he proposed the theory of relativity. Dou Wead experienced so many rejections when he was doing his networking business, but there will be no Mercy Corps, if he did not dare to fail. For them, rejection is too small, comparing what they will realize – their dream their future.

So, the biggest enemy is not those who reject you. The biggest enemy is your fear of failure – fear of rejection. Don't let it close your heart and make you not take the opportunity. Dare to fail and take the opportunity. Make decision to take opportunity and overcome your fear, you will learn a lot from it.[]
